February 27, 2001 Selected as one of America’s top doctors in the premier edition of America’s Top Doctors, a national guide to outstanding medical specialists throughout the United States. Fewer than one percent of physicians in the United States have been recognized by inclusion in this national Castle Connolly Guide. Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., 2001, America’s Top Doctors, page 312. Since then until present, he has been selected annually.

Honored as the “Intellectual of the Year” by Diwan Ahl Al-Qalam (a club of intellectuals in Lebanon).

This is an annual award granted by Diwan Ahl Al-Qalam to a prominent Lebanese intellectual. The ceremony was held at the UNESCO building in Beirut. It was held under the auspices of the President of Lebanon, Mr. Emile Lahoud. Salwa Al-Amin, who is the chairperson of Diwan Ahl Al-Qalam, introduced Dr. Salem. She was followed by Dr. Eyad Chatty, the Minister of Health in Syria, Fouad Boustani, the ex-chief of the medical syndicate in Beirut, Clovis Maksoud, former ambassador of the Arab League to the United Nations, Mansour Rahbani, a famous Lebanese artist, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mahmoud Hammoud.

April 5, 2002 Decorated by the President of Lebanon, General Emile Lahoud, and was given the highest civilian honor on Friday, April 5, 2002 at the presidential palace in Lebanon.
April 21, 2002 Arab American Cultural and Heritage award by the Arab American Cultural and Heritage Center. The ceremony was held on Sunday, April 21, 2002 at 4:00 p.m. at the Arab American Cultural Center in Houston.
May 2003 Selected “Man of the Month” by Arrajol Magazine. This monthly magazine is published by the Saudi Publishing and Distributing Company, which is headquarted in London, England. It had a 14-page cover story featuring Dr. Salem’s life and his philosophy. This was the first time that this magazine had on its cover a person who is not a politician. May 2003, issue no. 125, pages 18-31.
October 21, 2003 Life Achievement Award. This award was bestowed on Dr. Salem by the Arab Cancer Congress during the opening ceremony of the conference, which was held at the Assad Library in Damascus, Syria from October 21, 2003.

June 2, 2005 Dr. Salem was honored by the American Lebanese National Movement (ALNM) in Houston, Texas. A ceremony was held at the Arab American Cultural Center in Houston and Dr. Salem was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award. He also gave a speech on “Lebanon: A new Opportunity; A new hope.”
July 28, 2005 Honored as a Guest of Honor for the 12th International Meeting of the Lebanese World Cultural Union, which was held in Beirut, Lebanon under the auspices of the President of Lebanon. In the honoring ceremony, which was held at the UNESCO in Beirut, Dr. Salem delivered a speech on “The Lebanese in Diaspora- the reality and the challenges”.
November 16, 2005 His research on IPSID was recognized by the Nobel Prize Committee as the gateway for research on H. pylori in the stomach, and its causal relationship to peptic ulcer and stomach cancer, which won the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine in 2005.

February 25, 2006 The American Lebanese Medical Association Scientific Achievement Award. This honor was bestowed upon him during the medical convention of the American Lebanese Medical Association, which was held in Las Vegas, February 24-25, 2006. Dr. Michael DeBakey was also honored during the same ceremony.

August 12, 2009 Honored by the World Lebanese Cultural Union in a national ceremony held at the Coral Beach Hotel in Beirut, Lebanon. Attended by representatives of the president of Lebanon, and the prime minister of Lebanon, and by the minister of foreign affairs. This honor was bestowed on Dr. Salem because of his contributions to medicine and to Lebanon.
October 2009 Included in Marquis Who’s Who in America for 2010 Edition. Inclusion is limited to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their own fields of endeavor.
March 2010 St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital, Houston, Texas established the Philip A. Salem Cancer Research Chair in recognition of Dr. Salem’s contributions to cancer medicine and research.
July 1, 2010 The Lebanese American University in Lebanon bestowed upon Dr. Salem an honorary doctorate in Humane Letters during the graduation ceremony which was held in Byblos, Lebanon. Also, Dr. Salem was the graduation ceremony speaker.
October 16, 2010 Honored by the Arab American Community and Cultural Centre in Houston in a Gala dinner, and awarded “The Life Achievement Award”.
December 2010 Selected member of the Board, “Arab Thought Forum”. This is a non-governmental organization established in 1981, and chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Al Hasan Bin Talal. The objective of this organization is to provide a platform for intellectual debate and to address issues relating to the Arab World and Arab Culture.
December 9, 2010 A recently published book by Nelson House for Publishing and authored by Mr. Michel Jeha was launched in a joint ceremony between Nelson House for Publishing and the American University of Beirut Alumni. The book depicts the profiles of the most distinguished 25 faculty members of the American University of Beirut over its lifespan of 144 years. Dr. Salem was one of the 25 selected.
March 31, 2012 Honored by the Rene Moawad Foundation, a non-political, non-religious charity organization benefiting the children of Lebanon, in a Gala dinner, held at the Omni Hotel in Houston. The Foundation bestowed on Dr. Salem the “Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award”.
April 4, 2012 Honored by St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital for 20 years’ service as director of cancer research.
June 27, 2012 Honored by the Lebanese Circle of Intellectuals ( Montada al Shira’ al Fikri ) at the UNESCO in Beirut. He was honored not only as a physician but as an intellectual and a Lebanese nationalist. Majida El Roumi, one of most famous Lebanese artists spoke about Dr. Salem’s philosophy of humanness.
November 27, 2012 Honored by the Beirut International Award Festival committee in Beirut at the Biel Royal Pavillon for his contributions to cancer medicine and the cause of Lebanon. This year the award ceremony carried the name of “ Michael DeBakey”. Dr. Salem was also honored as the heir of Dr. DeBakeys’ legacy: Excellence in Medicine.
February 22,2013 Honored by the Lions Economic Forum committee held at the Ecole Superieur des Affairs in Beirut , for his contributions to medicine, literature and politics.
February 23, 2013 Honored by the Lebanese Welfare Association for the Handicapped in a ceremony held in Beirut at the Biel. Mrs. Randa Berri, the chairperson for this event proclaimed that Dr. Salem is honored “as a great man from Lebanon who has contributed to humanity”. The ceremony was attended by government officials and leaders of civic society in Lebanon.
February 28, 2013 Honored by Notre Dame University in Lebanon in a ceremony held at the auditorium of the university. The honoring was not because of Dr. Salem’s contributions to medicine only but also for his contributions to Lebanon and the Arab World as a writer and an author.
July 12, 2013 Honored by Notre Dame University of Lebanon. In the graduation ceremony which was held on July 12, Dr. Salem was the keynote speaker and an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters was bestowed up him by the university. Also, the university announced a new award The Philip A. Salem Award in Nursing Excellence. Notre Dame University does not have a medical school, but it has a nursing college.
July 12, 2013 The President of Lebanon, Michel Sleiman, decorated Dr. Salem with the highest civilian honor during the graduation ceremony which was held on this date at the Notre Dame University.

February 2018 Baylor St Luke’s Medical Center established a bi-annual lecture series that carries his name. This is in honor of his contributions to cancer medicine and research. The first inaugural lecture was given on April 12, 2018, by Dr. Issam Raad, Chief of Infectious Disease at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.
July 23, 2018 The prestigious Annahar Newspaper of Beirut featured Dr. Salem on the front page. Never before in the history of the newspaper was a man featured in this manner. This was in recognition of completing 50 years in cancer medicine and research.
July 24, 2018 The president of Lebanon, Michel Aoun, bestowed on Dr. Salem the highest honor that the president can bestow on anybody. The medal was “The Lebanese Golden Life Achievement Award, Highest degree”. This medal was awarded to Dr. Salem in a ceremony held at Phoenicia Hotel in Beirut, Lebanon.
January 16, 2019 Interview with National Fox News in New York about the recently published book, “DEFEATING CANCER, Knowledge Alone is not enough”. The interviewer was Dr. Danny Alvarez. This interview has been aired many times all over the world.
July 26, 2022 Dr. Salem was honored in Beirut, Lebanon by the World Lebanese Cultural Union (WLCU), with the Hassan Kamel Al-Sabbah award, which is the highest award that the WLCU could grant anybody. This was done during a ceremony at the Le Maillon restaurant in Beirut. The current president of the WLCU is Mr. Fawaz Abbas.

“The International Award of the pride of Arabs in Cancer Research” was granted to Dr. Philip Salem on Dec 13, 2022, in Dubai by the authorized council for granting scientific awards. The award was granted to Dr. Salem for his life achievements in cancer research but in particular for two of them:
  • The concept is that repeated microbial infections may eventually lead to cancer.
  • And the new concept is that a combination of Immunotherapy plus chemo plus targeted therapy in advanced cancer is an extremely effective new treatment.
January 2, 2023 Documentary on Dr. Charles Malek and Dr. Philip Salem. On Monday, January 2, 2023, at 11a m Houston time (7 p.m. Beirut time), Noursat, TV Lumiere – the specific television station of Tele Lumiere, (the voice of the catholic church all over the world), aired a 12-minute documentary on two men from Lebanon. Dr. Charles Malek and Dr. Philip Salem The title of the documentary was “Lebanon and Man”. Charles Malek and Philip Salem. Half of the documentary was on Charles Malek and his contributions to the UN Declaration of Human rights. The remaining half was on Dr. Salem and his achievements in cancer medicine. The narration on the Malek section was a speech of mine, that I delivered at a conference on Charles Malek which was held in Sydney Australia, on Dec 12, 2022. and my remarks were the content of a video that I prepared for the Fakhr Al Arab Award in Cancer Research ceremony that was held in Dubai, UAE on December 13, 2022. The award was “The International Award of the pride of Arabs in Cancer Research”.
